This purple banded Fluorite Skull carving is seemingly more proportional than most carvings we see. This piece was backlit for our images, you can see both natural and backlit color on the video.
Fluorite is calcium fluoride (CaF2), a halide mineral first described in 1797 by Carlo Antonio Galeani Napione, who named it from the Latin fluere meaning "to flow" due to its use as a flux. It is the source of the fluoride added to toothpaste, and the term fluorescence comes from this mineral because it often glows under ultraviolet light.
