Azurite is a secondary copper carbonate mineral with the formula Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2, renowned for its vivid midnight blue color and shiny bladed crystals. Its name derives from the ancient Persian word lazhward meaning "blue" and was officially changed to azurite in 1824 by François Sulpice Beudant. Historically used as a blue pigment, it is now primarily valued by collectors for its striking appearance.
