Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate mineral with the formula MnCO3 that forms beautiful pink to rose-red crystals. First described in 1813 by German mineralogist August Breithaupt, its name derives from the Greek rhodon (rose) and chros (color) due to its distinctive hue. The rose-like botryoidal growths on this piece has a nice shiny lustre.
