New find from a classic locality. The Duftite/Mimeite combination reminds us of classic Tsumeb material.
Duftite is a lead-copper arsenate mineral with the formula PbCu(AsO4)(OH), belonging to the Adelite-Descloizite Group. It was named in 1920 by Otto Pufahl for Gustav Bernhard Duft, the second General Manager of the Tsumeb Mine in Namibia. This olive-green mineral typically forms botryoidal crusts and is a compositional intermediate in the conichalcite-duftite series.
The Ojuela Mine in Mapimí, Durango, Mexico is a world-class locality discovered in 1660 and renowned for producing the finest adamite specimens globally, characterized by lemon-yellow crystal aggregates in wheels and balls on reddish brown limonite matrix. This active group of mines is also the type locality for ojuelaite, a zinc-iron arsenate mineral named specifically for this site. Collectors prize the mine for its exceptional output of high-quality adamite, including rare cobaltian and manganoan varieties that have fetched thousands of dollars at auction. The locality remains highly relevant today as a premier source for these iconic specimens, with hundreds of fine examples produced since the 1960s.
