Quartz is a common silicate mineral composed of silicon dioxide, SiO2, often forming clear, glassy crystals with hardness 7. Its crystals are piezoelectric, creating an electrical charge under pressure, which makes quartz valuable in watches, computers, and cell phones.
Finch Mine lies in Keystone Gulch near Chilito, in the Banner Mining District of Gila County, Arizona. This former underground lead-vanadium-copper mine is especially noted for wulfenite crystals commonly coated with drusy quartz, creating attractive contrast prized by mineral collectors. Its documented association with hemimorphite adds further interest to specimens from the locality, which remains a distinctive source of collectible Arizona secondary-mineral material.
