Epidote is a green calcium aluminum iron silicate mineral (Ca2(Al2Fe3+)[Si2O7][SiO4]O(OH)) named in 1801 by René Just Haüy from the Greek epidosis meaning increase due to its extended crystal base.
Balochistan is Pakistan’s largest and richest mineral province, renowned for its diverse Triassic to recent strata and major metallogenic zones like the Chagai-Raskoh magmatic arc and Indus Suture . The region hosts large proven reserves of copper (often associated with gold, silver, and molybdenum), iron, lead, zinc, chromite, barite, and limestone marble, making it a premier source for collector specimens . Notable localities include Kharan District, which produced fine brookite crystals in 2004, and the Zard Mountains in Kharan, known for unusual epidote crystals . Collectors today value Balochistan for its exceptional variety of metallic and sedimentary minerals, with Quetta serving as the provincial capital and key access point .
