Size: Small Cabinet - 6.4 × 4.4 × 1 cm
A unique combination from a small, family run Mine located outside the city of Ica, Peru. This piece was part of a small find in 2022-2023. The piece is a cast off of another larger mineral crystal, which is not identified.
Chrysocolla is a hydrous copper silicate mineral, with formula Cu2-xAlx(H2-xSi2O5)(OH)4·nH2O. It was named by Theophrastus in 315 B.C., from the Greek words for gold and glue, a reference to its use in soldering gold.
Ica District in Ica Province, on Peru’s southern coastal desert, is part of the broader Ica region and is the area most collectors associate with the famous Monte Rosa Mine locality. The district sits in a mineral-rich part of southern Peru that has produced notable specimens from the Ica Province area, including material linked to copper-bearing deposits and other collectible localities in the region. Today, Ica remains relevant to collectors for the variety of Peruvian mineral specimens associated with its nearby mines and desert occurrences.
