Size: Cabinet - 9.5 × 9 × 4.5 cm
A complete pink chalcedony geode. One side with many stalactitic formations, the other with a smattering of crystals and an interesting little spot of frosty botryoidal chalcedony. The outside ridge has both dark peach and milky white chalcedony. There is a small repair tucked in the nook at the top, seen in the second picture. Dimensions and weight are for the entire geode.
Chalcedony is a catch-all term for cryptocrystalline quartz varieties with the formula SiO2, first mentioned by Agricola in 1546 for a stone named after the town of Chalcedon in Turkey. Because of its abundance and durability, it was the earliest raw material used by humankind for projectile points, knives, and tools.
