This piece has good aesthetics: a peachy ombré of bladed barytes, surrounded with lustrous and mildly fluorescent Cerrusite crystals, with Galena under it all created a good contrast.
Baryte is a barium sulfate mineral, BaSO4. Cerussite is a lead carbonate mineral, PbCO3, first described by Wilhelm Karl von Haidinger in 1845, and its name comes from the Latin for white lead. Galena is a lead sulfide mineral, PbS, and it commonly occurs with baryte and cerussite.
The Anti-Atlas Mountains in southern Morocco are one of the country’s main mountain ranges and a geologically important mineral province with hundreds of documented occurrences. The region is best known for its diverse mineral resources and for producing specimens from localities such as the Bou Azzer and Aghbar mining areas. For collectors, the Anti-Atlas remains significant because it has yielded a wide range of mineralized material from classic Moroccan districts that continue to attract attention today.
