Locality: Santa Eulalia Mining District, Aquiles Serdán Municipality, Chihuahua, Mexico

Goethite is an iron oxyhydroxide, FeO(OH), found here as an epimorph cast after Selenite. It has a dark, gothic aesthetic with a light metallic luster.

Santa Eulalia Mining District lies in central Chihuahua, Mexico, about 23 km east of Chihuahua City, and is one of the country’s most important historic mining camps. It has been in nearly continuous production since the early 1700s and is known for silver, lead, and zinc, with lesser copper, tin, vanadium, and gold; the district is divided into the East Camp and West Camp. For collectors, Santa Eulalia is especially noted for classic mineral occurrences such as rhodochrosite and hemimorphite from its lead-zinc-silver ore bodies, including the San Antonio and Potosí mines.
