Locality: Qinglong Mine, Dachang Sb ore field, Qinglong County, Qianxinan, Guizhou, China
Fluorite is calcium fluoride (CaF2), the principal source of fluorine, and was named in 1797 by Carlo Antonio Galeani Napione from the Latin fluere meaning "to flow" due to its use as a flux. The term fluorescence comes from this mineral because it often strongly exhibits that effect, and fluorine in toothpaste derives from it.
The Qinglong Mine, also known as the Dachang Mine, is located in the Dachang Sb ore field within Qinglong County, Qianxinan, Guizhou, China. This locality is geologically renowned as a significant antimony (Sb) deposit and has produced confirmed specimens of minerals such as cyanotrichite. Collectors value this site for its distinct antimony mineralization within the Guizhou province, making it a notable source for specific secondary copper minerals like cyanotrichite. The mine remains a recognized locality for antimony specimens in the global mineral collecting community.
